Why Not Romanticize Your Winter Season: 6 Ways To Beat The Winter Blues

January, February, and March for me tend to be the lost months. The three months of the year that just seem to slug by with nothing notable happening. I don’t hate the season, but I don’t particularly love it either. It just seems like my life become super still, quiet, and my body seems to crave rest, relaxation, and coziness. For the last few years I did all the things set my goals, did my vision board, and journal ed and was super excited to get going on my goals but fate had other plans. One year I started a new stressful job in January. Each afternoon I would scurry home and decompress by watching my favorite Netflix shows, the next January I was ill the entire month and spent February recovering and trying to put my life back together. The next year I lost my grandfather and had dental surgery. So for the last three years I spend January, February, and March easing into the new year. Well this year I’ve taken the same approach. Why? My body is craving rest and I’m giving it to her. She deserves it. While I am working toward my goals I am prioritizing rest and coziness while setting myself up to hit my goals hard as the spring rolls in. This slowness of the season has given me a new love for Winter. I’m enjoying the quite time, the hours reading and sipping cocoa, making different soup recipes, trying new coffee shops and picking out my next reads at Barnes. Planning dinner dates with my friends and movie dates with my family members have all added a little delight to the season.
If you tend to get the winter blues lets leave that behind this year. Instead of thinking of all the things your missing change your perspective and think of all the things that you get to enjoy these next 10 weeks. Girl if your struggling here’s your guide to the perfect winter
Make The Season Meaningful
All other seasons we give meaning to because of either the holidays or what we get to experience during those seasons. However winter we seems just chalk it up to being in the house. However winter is the perfect time to work on yourself specifically the areas of personal, spiritual, and mental development. The quite of the season lends to more reflect and time for learning and developing. If you have ever wanted to start a spiritual or physical journey this is the perfect time. This also a great time to builds some new professional skills.
Start A Project
I know you have that one thing on your to-do or goal list that you have been looking at year after year afraid to tackle because it such a large feat. Maybe its starting a podcast, you-tube channel, renovating your home, starting a garden, starting a business. Whatever it is not is the time to sink your teeth into it. Use the time inside to plan, organize, and start.
Learn Something New
Learning is a way to grow and develop as a person. If your feeling stuck in any area of your life there is likely a skill or concept to learn to help you out of that place. Think of skills that will improve your career, parenting, or relationships. I like to use the first 90 days to put in the time to study for work certifications or plan career advancement. I know as the weather warms the less likely I will want to hunker down and spend lots of time studying or trying to level up.
Pick A Cozy Hobby To Indulge In
Cozy hobbies are my all time favorite. Its the hobbies that we do that nobody knows you like and kinda gives you the side eye for doing. These are the hobbies your grandmother did in her favorite chair in the evening that were quiet and but also beautiful. Think quilting, knitting, Crocheting. Today the girls are loving coloring, gaming, and reading. Choose one or more and make it an experience.
Plan Cozy Events At Your Home
Intimate gathering in your home or your favorite 3 space could bring back the joy into the season. Two or three people meeting to discuss your favorite TV show or book or game nights with family and friends gives you something to look forward to during the week. Plan an event twice a month. You can also plan smaller events with your friends that you do more often like Saturday afternoon tea, catching up on your favorite shows , scrap booking, or playing video games. They can be simple events that you use to just socialize.

Self Care, Self Work, Self Development
Have you ever heard the phase get lost for 90 days and reemerge your best self. This advice comes from all the girls going on glow up journeys, weigh-loss journeys , or healing journeys. The idea is to take 90 days and solely focus on working on one particular goal. That means limiting the access people have to you in order to become extra disciplined. Winter is the time to make this happen to build your best body, transform your life or heal your inner child either one or all three. Using the quiet time to focus on yourself
If you have tired it all the next best thing to do is rest. Spending a season getting intentional rest is good for the soul. Resting has so many benefits reduction of stress, improved sleep, increased energy, and a boost to your immune system.
